Jerry Hawkins' playing is heavily influenced from artists and bands spanning
the spectrum of Motown, Blues, and British Invasion Era music.
Jerry started his music career in high school and continued through college
with a band named Ivan and the Sabers. Ivan and the Sabers became a rather
reknowned band in Ohio and had the honor to share their playbill with many
national and international acts. In 1964, the Rolling
Stones - on their firt American tour, played Hara Arena of Dayton, Ohio
- and Ivan and the Sabers were able to open for this, what would become
- legendary band. Ivan and the Sabers also did a mini Tour with the Beach
Boys and the Shangrilas in OH and MI; Opened for the Byrds, The McCoys
and also played back-up band for such singers as Jan
and Dean and Little
Anthony and Clyde McFatter. After college, Ivan and the Sabers disbanded.
Jerry grabbed himself a "real" job as did most of graduates, especially
from the Vietnam War era. Jerry's childhood friend (and Ivan and the Sabers
lead guitarist/singer) Ivan
Browne - became lead singer of the LEMON PIPERS and in 1968 debuted
#1 Hit Song - GREEN TAMBOURINE, which was on the charts worldwide.
Jerry and his wife Susan reside in St. Clair Shores, MI. He has two boys
from a previous marriage, as does his wife Sue. Jerry's other interests
are boating and operating his test instrument business Jerco
Products that designs and produces chemical boiling point test equipment
for the auto industry.
